Grandparents Day: special activities for grandparents and grandchildren
The bond between a grandparent and grandchild is filled with tenderness and wisdom. This connection transcends generations, offering a special link that enriches the lives of both. For a child, a grandparent represents a haven of sweetness. Grandparents embody patience and kindness, generously and carefree distributing candies and other treats ;-). Grandchildren, in turn, often bring a new sense of youth to their grandparents, engaging them in activities—and the accompanying playful chases—that they might not have experienced otherwise. On the occasion of Grandparents’ Day, celebrated on July 26, 2024, Lisboa Events unveils its favorite events for grandparents and grandchildren to share special moments of bonding. A few well-deserved hours of rest for parents who can catch their breath at the start of the grand slam of summer holidays!

Sewing and Cooking Workshop: In My Grandmother's Studio – Grandparents' Day Special
Embroidery, sewing, cooking, and touching are fundamental ways of experiencing for the artist Ernesto Neto, who learned to crochet at his grandmother’s house, where porcelain painting and cooking also took place. On World Grandparents’ Day, we invite grandparents and grandchildren to participate in a workshop that encourages the use of hands as a creative tool. The five senses will be put to the test: we will see, smell, touch, hear, and eat. What do we learn from our grandparents? And what can they learn from us?

In this family workshop, we will discover family portraits that are also beautiful pieces of jewelry. My Grandmother Trelotótó
My grandmother had such strength and a love for life that she made me believe some of us could escape death and become immortal. When she passed away, I wanted to save her. I filmed a ghost to later return it to the realm of the living, much like Orpheus tried with Eurydice. I created a world where she continues to live, and to do so, I armed myself with every tool at my disposal. It’s a world, a film, made up of many recordings —crafting it was like clockwork, a labor of love.
Story Picnic – Intergenerational Gathering
Grandparents and grandchildren are invited to come to this gathering in the “courtyard” of Casa do Jardim da Estrela, where stories from the past will be retold, fostering an intergenerational sharing focused on affection. Facilitator: Noélia Fernandes.
Special Workshop for Grandparents & Grandchildren
We’ve designed a cooking workshop for Mini Chefs to share with their grandparents. It’s a unique culinary experience that brings generations together in the kitchen to create special moments. We’ll literally get our hands dirty and learn all the secrets to making fresh pasta! The Mini Chefs, alongside their grandparents, will mix ingredients, knead, cut, and learn how to cook the pasta “al dente”. Finally, we’ll sit down to enjoy a delicious Italian lunch prepared with lots of love!
