Mindset Mathematics summer camp is back with a new name: ArteMatika! We will be at the Goethe Institut in Lisbon, with the use of their beautiful garden and welcoming building. Just like last year we will do Mindset Mathematics in the morning (with Dr. Sara Santos — mathematician, performer, educator) and Creative Labs in the afternoon (arts with professional artists, crochet, bracelet-making & more), with an updated program of activities.
Come and experience fun group activities that explore big ideas in mathematics and expand your beliefs about yourself as a maths learner. Discover a new confidence in yourself by understanding how your brain works when you are learning, and then how to make your brain “grow” when you study. Mornings will be spent in teams, working on and discussing patterns, puzzles, and problems, exploring relationships in numbers and discovering what algebra is all about (spoiler alert: it isn’t about x!). The goal is to have fun, gain confidence, and practice embracing great challenges as moments for growth. In the afternoons, we will think beyond mathematics and engage in fun, creative thinking activities to further our understanding of how we fit into the wider world.
We aim to take the children out for supervised outdoor play at Jardim do Torel and Campo dos Mártires da Pátria, located nearby. Some Creative Lab activities may also take place in these outdoor spaces, weather permitting.
Languages: English and Portuguese. Meals are not provided. Parents may send their children with a morning snack, a packed lunch, and an afternoon snack. Please ensure all food is nut-free due to allergy concerns. The Goethe Institut has a cafeteria on-site, and we are exploring the possibility of offering a dedicated course menu in collaboration with them (not yet confirmed).
