My sweet Helvetia
Swiss by nationality, I have lived in Geneva for a long time, where our son, Swiss like me by blood, was born in 2018. The Swiss love chocolate. That’s an understatement! As the world’s top consumers (and producers!) of chocolate, they eat an average of 10 kg per year. It’s fair to say that Easter is a highly anticipated period in our household… If you missed the Festival Internacional de Chocolate de Óbidos earlier this month, this article provides some tips on how to catch up on your cocoa fix with your family.
Egg hunting
Easter wouldn’t be quite Easter without a traditional egg hunt. Every year, Castelo de São Jorge hosts the most sought-after egg hunt. Since tickets sell out very quickly, here we offer you three alternative egg hunts, a bit more confidential.
On Saturday, March 23rd, head to the Museu da Farmácia where, in the most unlikely places, clues may appear at any moment to help you find the next egg. To complete this adventure, participants aged 5 and up will have to overcome various scientific challenges. A 100% indoor egg hunt, the perfect plan in case of bad weather!
On Saturday, March 30th, GreenTrekker challenges families with child(ren) aged 7 and up to find colored eggs hidden in Monsanto Forest. Come breathe the fresh air, enjoy fantastic views, and appreciate the palette of colors that nature paints at this time of year. Don’t forget to bring a basket to collect the Easter eggs you find along the way… An exciting egg hunt inside Lisbon’s largest green space!
Our festivities continue on a different kind of lawn. Friday, March 29th, meet at the Museu Benfica – Cosme Damião and at the Estádio do Sport Lisboa e Benfica. Where are the Easter eggs? At the Museum? Hidden in the football stadium? To discover them, little detectives aged 6 and up will have to find and decipher several clues with the help of their parents. An egg hunt allowing you to tread the lawn that hosts home matches for one of Portugal’s biggest clubs.

Culinary workshops
In a sweet period like Easter, it can be fun to participate with your child in a culinary workshop where you’ll learn to make delicious sweet recipes together. For example, on March 23rd, the Academia Auchan in Almada offers a gourmet workshop during which chocolate will be one of the main ingredients. Come with your mini chef to prepare typical Easter desserts and understand how to innovate to surprise your guests. You will be guided by the valuable advice of Chef Sofia Pereira, a passionate pastry chef with over thirteen years of expertise in the field.
Read about 3 additional culinary workshops in our newsletter, including one where children will discover the benefits of a healthy diet.
Páscoa na Vila
From March 22nd to April 7th, we recommend you to plan a few hours in the bay of Cascais to attend the 2nd edition of “Páscoa na Vila” (Easter in the Village). In addition to the decorations and numerous activities that will delight the little ones, you will find an Easter market and a thematic village, consisting of 4 houses, where chocolate will flow abundantly! Chocolate overdose? Take a carousel ride, get on the Ferris wheel, or speed up your digestion by jumping on a trampoline…
And if you don’t like chocolate?
What, you don’t like chocolate? Did I hear that right? How is that possible? Ah, you’re watching your figure… No worries, in our newsletter, we also suggest plenty of Easter activities that have nothing to do with chocolate: greeting card creation workshop, crochet workshop, breakfast with bunny at Hard Rock Café, Easter concert, Easter readings, stroll and picnic at Monserrate, etc.
